Educated at The Rhode Island School of Photography, Michael Lamy is a commercial photographer who works primarily in the digital medium. Fox, Michael moved on to freelance work, providing photography for clients such as Chrysalis records, Uniroyal Chemical Company, Edwards / Finast Supermarkets and Saint Francis Hospital, to name a few.
Michaels interest in the rapidly developing field of digital photography led him to a position as head photographer at Connecticuts cutting-edge Ulsaker Studio in East Hartford; a combination digital photo studio, service bureau and digital systems integrator. In addition to providing advertising photography for clients there, Michael was responsible for Macintosh system configuration, troubleshooting and client training. He has installed and maintained digital photography systems for the studios of Ames Department Stores, Black & Decker Corp, Ethan Allen Inc., Bic Corp. and Christies International in NYC.
After three years at Ulsaker Studio Michael moved on to open Studio 600, a digital advertising photo studio in Shelton, CT serving such clients as 1-800Flowers, IBM, Remington Products, Novartis Pharmaceutical and Marriott Hotels. As a digital consultant, Michael was contacted by Timex Corporation to install a digital photography studio in their world headquarters. Upon completion of the installation in 2000, Michael was asked to join Timex to manage and operate this new in house digital imaging department. With his expertise in digital imaging, Michael produced photography to serve all Timex advertising needs, from catalogs and web sites, to packaging and point of purchase displays. An Adobe Photoshop user since version 2, Michael was able to consolidate all electronic prepress services under one roof for Timex.
In addition to his work in digital photography Michael served for three years as a board member of the Connecticut Art Directors Club. As an adjunct faculty member at The Naugatuck Valley Community Technical College since 1990, he has worked to educate others in conventional and digital photography. Michael served as a founding partner, board member and Photoshop instructor at the Digital Arts Training Association in Danbury, CT, which offers instruction in a variety of graphics related career paths. The center opened its doors in the Fall of 1998 and grew into its new and larger facility in 2002.
In April 2003 Hallmark Cards, Inc. hired and relocated Michael to their home office in Kansas City, Missouri where he is now employed as a Senior Digital Retoucher. At Hallmark, Michael is part of a team responsible for manipulating, enhancing and retouching all images used in Hallmark's extensive product lines and advertising. In 2006 Michael achieved Adobe Expert Certification in Photoshop CS2 and has used his extensive knowledge of that application to train Artists, Designers and Illustrator within Hallmark, through Podcasts that he produces and in classroom settings.
Michael is also employed by Apple Inc. as a Mac Specialist in Kansas City. His extensive creative/technical background brings unique insight to his role aiding customers in determining the most appropriate hardware/software solution for their specific needs.
When not behind the keyboard, Michael enjoys dancing, competing and teaching Lindy Hop, the original form of Swing Dance popular from the late 1920s through the 1950s.
